Calypso U.S. Pipeline

The Calypso Pipeline project is owned by Calypso U.S. Pipeline, LLC, which is a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of SUEZ Energy North America, Inc. (SENA).

Florida is already the third largest consumer of petroleum and electricity in the United States, and Florida's electricity demand for electricity is expected to increase by more than 37% between 2005 and 2015, according to the Florida Public Service Commission. Natural gas, a clean, safe and efficient fuel source, will be an important component of any environmentally responsible energy program. SUEZ is prepared to be a part of Florida's energy and environmental solution in the years ahead by increasing and diversifying the state's supply of clean-burning natural gas available for existing and future power generators. This new supply will be transported into the state by the pipeline being developed by Calypso Pipeline.

The proposed pipeline will transport natural gas from proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification facilities being developed by the Calypso Deepwater Port (DWP), another SENA affiliate. Calypso DWP, a proposed regasification facility, is a submerged offloading buoy and anchoring system that will reside approximately 120 feet below the ocean surface when not in use and serve as an offshore delivery point for natural gas.

The Deepwater Port project is proposed to be located approximately 8 to 10 miles offshore from Port Everglades, and connect directly to the Calypso Pipeline.

The pipeline would make landfall in Broward County, Florida, and come on shore in Port Everglades, travel approximately 5 miles along an existing industrial corridor, and ultimately connect to the existing Florida Gas Transmission pipeline system.

According to Florida's Public Service Commission, approximately 1.2 billion cubic feet per day of additional natural gas is projected to be needed to meet the state's forecasted 2014 gas-fired electricity generation demand. The Calypso U.S. Pipeline is designed to supply 832,000 MMBtu of natural gas per day. That's enough fuel to satisfy two thirds of the new gas required to meet the state's projected 2014 gas-fired electric generation demand.

One of the most environmentally friendly fuels, natural gas produces far fewer pollutants when burned than coal or oil. It is more energy efficient and is one of the most cost-effective forms of energy available, costing less to burn than competing energy sources such as fuel oil, propane, and kerosene. Because of its many benefits, natural gas has become the fuel of choice for new power generation.

The use of natural gas will allow Florida to produce fewer pollutants, benefiting the state's residents and the environment. Also, by securing a clean, reliable energy supply today, Florida is taking steps to ensure a plentiful and diversified energy supply for the future. Additionally, Calypso Pipeline's project is anticipated to have other economic impacts through increased construction and operation spending.

SENA's parent, SUEZ Energy International, has global experience in engineering, construction and operation of LNG facilities and gas pipelines. SENA is the second largest importer of LNG into the U.S. and is uniquely positioned to safely and efficiently build and operate the pipeline to help fuel Florida's growing electric energy requirements.
